Welcome to Ms. Ruiter's class!
In addition to periodic emails, I will be posting announcements, updates, and homework here. Check back often to make sure you are in the loop!
As always, parents are welcome to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I am so glad to be your child's teacher this year, and have really enjoyed getting to know them so far. Something we have been working on is a community project I call Share the Love. We are so close to several residences for the elderly, and Covid has made it difficult and lonely for many. We are learning a song that we can then share with our neighbours (we stand outside and give them lots of notice so residents can come down to the main entrance to hear us) along with some signs of encouragement. We piloted it once and had such a positive response, and the kids seemed to love bringing joy to others.
This year, we plan to go swimming monthly (as long as Covid doesn't shut us down again!) and permission forms for that will go home before each booking.
Students are doing book conferences when they finish reading a book. After 10, they get a prize (must include level-appropriate books). So far, we have one student who has made it!
Ms. Chester and I are also really pleased to have Ms. Bowen join our class is term one as a student teacher. She has worked hard to create engaging lessons and build connections with the kids, and they think it's almost as cool as our aquatic pets (pictured above are Mr. J, Jeffrey, and Kate the snail).
If you have not done so, please make sure you do permission clicks for you child to have access to computers and other tech at school.
October 19, 2021
Dates to remember:
- No School for students Friday (Pro D for staff)
- Fall Hike next Wednesday! We will be going to Teapot Hill (students need to bring a lunch, water, and a snack). Permission form needs to be returned on Monday.
-Students can wear Halloween costumes on Friday, October 29. Please, no masks in school (face paint is awesome!)
